25 Nigerians arrested in Dodowa cybercrime raid

A high-risk cybercrime crackdown in the Greater Accra Region has led to the arrest of 25 Nigerian nationals suspected of running a sophisticated fraud operation. The raid, conducted on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in the Sasaabi area near Dodowa, was a joint effort between the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), the Ghana Police Cybercrime Unit, and the CID.

Authorities acted swiftly after receiving a distress alert from the Computer Emergency Response Team – Ghana (CERT-GH). The tip came from a Nigerian national who reported being held against his will and forced to engage in cyber fraud. Through contact with his mother in Nigeria, his identity was verified, and further checks revealed he had been declared missing in his home country. He also claimed around 20 others were being similarly exploited, which escalated the urgency of the operation.

The 12-member tactical police team, led by senior CSA officials and the Director of Operations for the Police Cybercrime Unit, stormed the premises. During the operation, more than 40 laptops and 25 mobile phones believed to be used for orchestrating financial scams were seized.

A CSA official, who spoke anonymously, said, “This operation underscores Ghana’s zero-tolerance policy on transnational cybercrime and our firm resolve to protect individuals—both Ghanaians and foreign nationals—from exploitation by criminal enterprises.”

All suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, including digital forensic analysis of the confiscated devices and efforts to uncover any links to broader international cybercrime networks.
