Ivan Bruce-Cudjoe has officially declared his intention to contest for the presidency of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) in June 2025, promising to usher in what he describes as “a new era of growth, professionalism, and global excellence” for the sport in the country.
A seasoned promoter and businessman with over eight years of experience in the industry, Bruce-Cudjoe says his candidacy is rooted in a bold agenda for change and resetting the GBA.
He believes Ghana’s boxing industry “stands at a crossroads” and insists now is the time for transformation.
Through his boxing outfit, CABIC Promotions and Management, Bruce-Cudjoe has been instrumental in organizing high-profile bouts both locally and abroad.
His efforts were recognized in 2019 when he won the SWAG Promoter of the Year award.
He also owns a state-of-the-art gym equipped with a standard boxing ring and facilities that meet international standards—evidence, he says, of his “commitment to the sport.”
One of his key priorities is to decentralize boxing in Ghana, a sport he argues has been concentrated in Accra for far too long.
He plans to work with the National Sports Authority to establish standard boxing gyms in all 16 regions of the country and encourage national title fights to be staged across various locations to foster competition and talent growth nationwide.
Bruce-Cudjoe is also pledging to empower retired boxers by appointing them as mentors and advisors to young fighters.
He intends to hold regular stakeholder conferences to ensure that the voices of promoters, referees, coaches, and athletes are heard and factored into key decisions.
“Ghanaian boxing needs collaboration, not division,” he said.
“My leadership will be built on inclusivity, respect, and appreciation for all contributions made to the sport so far.”
In addition to proposing a comprehensive welfare scheme for all stakeholders, Bruce-Cudjoe says he will appoint special envoys to deepen international cooperation and secure global opportunities for Ghanaian fighters.
His ultimate goal is to groom a world-class boxer who will bring home a world title within my first term in office.
He concluded his announcement with a message of unity and ambition:
“This is not just about leadership; it’s about building a boxing industry that is stronger, fairer, and more successful. Together, let’s make Ghanaian boxing a powerhouse that produces champions and inspires generations.”
