Former US NFL player Isaiah Stanback in Ghana, exploring possibility of a sports academy

Former US National Football League (NFL) player, Isaiah Stanback, is in Ghana to explore the possibility of setting up a sports academy in the country.

The sports academy when established, would not only train Ghanaian youth in soccer but other sporting activities, including American football and basketball.

Speaking to journalists in Accra on Monday as part of his four-day visit to Ghana, Mr Stanback said there is so much talent in Ghana that it is imperative to harness it and showcase it to the world.

The former NFL player said his visit is to enable him to learn more about the sports community and how he can use his expertise to assist the youth in that direction.

“There are a lot kids and talents here and we have to bring things that will add value and development to them”, Mr Stanback said.

He said there are millions of kids in the country who already understand soccer, adding that the same skills can be transferred into American football other sporting disciplines.

Mr Stanback said the leadership of the country, from his engagements, is ready to support the development of sporting activities and he is determined to draw up a game plan to establish a sports academy and bring in top-level expertise to develop Ghanaians’ talents in sports.

Mr Stanback is a Super Bowl champion (XLVI).

He played in the NFL for the Cowboys, New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars.
