Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the United Kingdom gave former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia a standing ovation after he issued a heartfelt apology during a Thank You Tour event in London.
The gathering, hosted by the Young Executive Forum (YEF), formed part of Dr Bawumia’s ongoing engagements with the Ghanaian diaspora following his selection as the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.
In his address, Dr Bawumia acknowledged that certain actions and decisions taken by the previous administration may not have met the expectations of every Ghanaian.
He admitted that while significant progress were made in areas such as digitalisation, infrastructural development, and education, there were also moments where the then government performance fell short.
“We are not perfect,” he said.
“But we are listening, and we are learning.” His candid admission struck a chord with the audience, many of whom rose to their feet in applause.
The standing ovation was not only a show of respect but also an affirmation of the trust many NPP supporters still place in Dr Bawumia’s leadership.
Several attendees described his apology as a sign of humility and maturity, rare traits in political leadership.
The YEF, a vibrant group of young professionals within the party, expressed confidence in the former Vice President’s ability to unify and energise the base ahead of the 2024 elections.
The event also highlighted the administration’s impact on the Ghanaian economy and governance.
While acknowledging ongoing challenges, he urged members of the diaspora to remain hopeful and supportive.
“Together, we can build a Ghana beyond aid,” he concluded, drawing another round of applause from the packed audience.
