Chief Executive of the Independent Power Generators Ghana (IPGG), Dr Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor, has expressed confidence in the newly appointed Board of Directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), describing it as capable of turning the company around.
In a statement, Dr Apetorgbor praised the Minister for Energy and Green Transition for what he called a well-considered decision.
“I wish to commend the Minister for Energy and Green Transition for the thoughtful and strategic composition of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG),” he said.
According to him, the inclusion of a “diverse, competent, and experienced team reflects a clear commitment to addressing the deep-rooted challenges facing ECG and repositioning the utility for long-term sustainability and improved service delivery.”
He gave special recognition to the newly appointed Board Chairman, Ing. Dr William Amuna, describing his leadership as timely.
“Special commendation goes to the Chairman of the Board, Ing. Dr. William Amuna, whose extensive experience and deep knowledge of Ghana’s energy sector provide solid leadership and strategic oversight,” Dr Apetorgbor said. “His proven track record in sector planning and utility operations offers ECG a much-needed compass at this critical juncture.”
Dr Apetorgbor also highlighted the inclusion of Dr Simons Yao Akorli, whom he referred to as “an analytical fellow” with deep expertise in regulatory economics, finance, and transaction cost economics.
“His insight will be instrumental in diagnosing and advising on ECG’s unacceptable and avoidable cost structure, a major impediment to operational efficiency and financial viability,” he explained.
He concluded with an endorsement of the board’s potential, saying,
“If these two distinguished professionals can be supported by a knowledgeable and capable management team, I am confident that ECG is poised for recovery, improved governance, and long-term sustainability. This is the leadership ECG needs to deliver on its mandate and regain the trust of its stakeholders.”
