A Circuit Court at Denu Torkor at Aflao has granted bail to Hawa Fuseini to the sum of GH¢70,000 for importing non-compliant pharmaceutical products and without a license into the country.
Hawa is still in Police cells for her inability to extricate her bail sum with two sureties, one of which to be justified.
She, however, pleaded guilty with explanation to the two charges and was billed to reappear on May 28.
Hawa narrated that she was unwell and stayed in Lome, Togo, receiving treatment for three months and was returning to Ghana, but was advised to deal in aphrodisiacs to generate revenue for her upkeep.
She said she was obliged and received the products on credit to begin a business in Accra before her arrest at the border, and begged for leniency.
Police Inspector Albert Kumbor, prosecuting, told the Court presided over by Joseph Behome, that Hawa was arrested at the Aflao border by a team of Food and Drugs Authority officials and other collaborators for attempting to smuggle a quantity of unregistered pharmaceutical products.
He said Hawa was en route to Accra on a Nagode Transport from Togo with registration number TG 5846 BN, when she was arrested on May 9, this year, at about 1730 hours, with packets of 200mg Mygra Sildanfil Citrate and 200mg Heira Sildanfil Citrate aphrodisiacs.
He said the consignment was concealed in a Cream Cracker carton, which was discovered by the inspection team.
