As part of activities marking this year’s Mother’s Day, Ahafo Regional Minister, Charity Gardiner, has donated assorted items to mothers and children at the St John of God Catholic Hospital in Duayaw-Nkwanta.
The donation included 1,500 baby diapers, 400 baby wipes, a bale of baby clothing, 112 sanitary pads, 12 cans of NAN baby formula, 100 paper pads, pieces of cloth, and various food and beverage items.
Children at the paediatrics unit and mothers in the labour ward were visibly delighted by the gesture and warmly engaged with the Minister during her visit. Earlier in the day, the Minister also shared a meal with inmates of the Kenyasi Settlement Camp Prison, supported a medical screening exercise, paid a courtesy call on the Kukuom Traditional Council, and held a special engagement with queenmothers in the region.
Mother’s Day in Ghana is a cherished tradition, celebrated annually to honour the love, sacrifices, and influence of mothers and maternal figures. It is widely observed through personal tributes, family gatherings, and community events that reflect deep appreciation for motherhood.
In her address, Mrs Gardiner encouraged mothers—especially those on admission at the hospital—to raise their children with strong values rooted in faith, good manners, patriotism, and compassion.
“When our children are brought up responsibly, they become respectful, law-abiding, hardworking and full of integrity. These positive values are key to nation-building,” she emphasised. She also offered words of encouragement to residents of the region, urging them not to give up on their dreams and aspirations.
“What the future holds for us all is unknown, but those who quit never win in life,” she added.
Mrs Gardiner was accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executives of Tano North and Tano South, Pius Opoku and Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, respectively, along with other regional heads of departments and agencies.
Dr Kobina Tsibo-Takyi, Medical Director of St John of God Catholic Hospital, expressed gratitude on behalf of the management and staff for the Minister’s visit and her thoughtful donations.
