A group of newly posted teachers assigned to the Ashanti Region in July 2024 staged a protest at the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters in Accra on Monday, April 14, demanding the payment of eight months’ salary arrears and the resolution of issues concerning their identification (ID) documents.
In an interview with Citi News, some of the teachers expressed deep frustration over the financial strain caused by the delayed payments.
Abdul Majeed, one of the affected teachers, said, “We are here because of our unpaid salaries. Some of us have been working for eight months, and while a few have received their pay, many of us have not. That’s why we’re here today, demanding answers.”
He added, “We’re not satisfied with the response we’ve received so far, but we are hopeful that things will improve soon.”
After a closed-door meeting with the Director-General of GES, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, the group’s leader, Adomako Korankye, disclosed that a committee has been established to address their grievances. He indicated that this development has given the group some reassurance that their concerns are being taken seriously.
