I inherited an empty warehouse – NADMO Boss

The Director General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, has revealed that he inherited an empty warehouse from his predecessor upon assuming office.

Dr. Kuyon, speaking in an interview with TV3, said he had to act quickly to restock supplies in preparation for potential disasters during the rainy season.

“I inherited an empty warehouse,” he admitted. “But I immediately engaged some trusted suppliers to provide us with buffer stock because we anticipated possible disasters based on earlier information we had received.”

Dr. Kuyon explained that while the organisation works to reaffirm contracts with its suppliers, he appealed to them to temporarily assist by stocking up the warehouse with essential items.

“Let’s put a few things in place while we work on formalising your contracts with the organisation. Please help us in this regard,” he urged.

The NADMO boss also disclosed that a committee has been established to audit the organisation’s stores, transport units, and other departments. He warned that anyone found complicit in any malpractice will face the law.

“When I take over an office, I do investigate to uncover any wrongdoing,” he said. “But my main focus is to ensure the organisation remains functional and continues to deliver on its mandate.”

Dr. Kuyon assured the public that the ongoing audits are aimed at promoting accountability and efficiency within NADMO’s operations.
