Tensions in the Upper East Region escalated further after a man was allegedly shot dead and burnt alongside his motorcycle in Binduri, a district bordering the conflict-prone Bawku enclave.
Eyewitnesses say the charred remains of the young man were discovered on Saturday, his lifeless body lying in dry grass next to a scorched motorcycle.
A disturbing photo circulating on social media shows a shadowy figure believed to be the assailant, appearing to hold a rifle close to the crime scene.
Though the identity of the victim is yet to be confirmed, locals believe he may have been ambushed, possibly in connection to the long-standing Bawku chieftaincy conflict, which has recently spilled into neighboring districts including Pusiga and Binduri.
Police have yet to release an official statement, but the incident comes barely 24 hours after the Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, concluded a regional tour following clashes between Kusasi youth and security forces in Bawku that left one person dead.
Residents remain on edge as they call for swift investigations and tighter security to prevent further spillover violence.
