The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has led a high-powered delegation to Bawku following a violent confrontation that claimed the life of a civilian and left several others, including security personnel, injured.
According to a statement released by the Ghana Police Service on April 10, 2025, the IGP was accompanied by a team of operations, investigation, and intelligence officers to the troubled town in the Upper East Region. The trip was aimed at obtaining firsthand information and assessing the current security situation.
The Police Service confirmed that calm had been restored in the area following the April 9 incident, thanks to joint efforts with the Ghana Armed Forces. The clash reportedly involved some youth of the town and the Police.
“One person, Fuseini Iddrisu, unfortunately lost his life during the incident,” the statement confirmed. “Five other persons, including one Police officer and one Immigration officer sustained gunshot injuries and are on admission receiving medical attention.”
Damage to property was also recorded. “Some properties belonging to the police including two vehicles and a rented police accommodation at Binduri as well as houses of some of the Police officers were damaged,” the release added.
The IGP’s visit, the statement said, is not only operational but also humanitarian. “While at Bawku, the IGP and his team will also commiserate with the deceased family, visit the injured persons on admission and reach out to officers who lost their properties as a result of the violence.”
Reaffirming their commitment to restoring lasting peace, the Police assured the public that they remain in close collaboration with all relevant stakeholders.
“We would like to assure the public that the Ghana Police Service will continue to work with the Ghana Armed Forces, chiefs, opinion leaders and all other stakeholders to ensure security, law and order at Bawku,” the statement concluded.
The press release was signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs.
