A combined effort by the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces initially restored calm in Bawku on April 9, 2025. However, fresh tensions erupted the next day, April 10, when a group of youth reportedly set ablaze the residence of the Member of Parliament for the area, Mahama Ayariga, in Wiidi, a suburb of Bawku.

Reports suggest the attack began with stones hurled at the building, shattering windows and causing damage, before escalating into an arson attack the following morning.

The unrest is believed to have been triggered by public anger over the alleged police killing of the young man.
