The Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mr. Mustapha Gbande, has called for the immediate arrest of three key people he claims are responsible for the disappearance of the over 1,300 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Tema Port.
With the over 1300 missing containers belong to the ECG meant for national power distribution, have sparked widespread concern.
In an interview on Citi FM yesterday March 31, Mr Gbande specifically demanded the arrest of Hon Alexander Afenyo-Markin, former Board Chairman of ECG; Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, former Minister of Energy; and Samuel Dubik Mahama, former Chief Executive Officer of ECG.
He argued that these individuals must be held accountable for their roles in the alleged scandal, which has raised serious questions about procurement irregularities and mismanagement within the power sector in the country
It has been alleged that certain government officials and executives at ECG were aware of the improper handling of the containers but failed to take appropriate measures .The disappearance of such quantum of containers according to Mr Gbande, is unacceptable and requires urgent intervention.
He stated that, “I am calling for the immediate arrest of Afenyo-Markin, Samuel Dubik Mahama, and
Matthew Opoku Prempeh because we cannot continue to have these instances of corruption, and it is time for us to take action.”
