The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has inaugurated an 11-member committee to oversee the transition from the double-track system to a single-track system in Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS).
The initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to streamline the academic calendar and enhance the quality of secondary education.
Chaired by Prof. Peter Grant of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), the committee will review the 2024/2025 academic calendar, align the WASSCE schedule with other West African nations, and develop a roadmap to phase out the double-track system.
The inauguration ceremony brought together key education stakeholders, including Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), and senior officials from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and GES. Also in attendance were Prof. Godwin Awabil from UCC, Prof. Samuel A. Atintono from PRINCOF, and Prof. Smile Gavua Dzisi, Deputy Director-General (Management Service) at GES.
Other committee members include Dr. Munawaru Issahaque, Deputy Director-General (Quality and Access) at GES, alongside representatives from WAEC, CODE, CHASS, COHBS, and the Schools & Instructions Division of GES.
The transition to a single-track system is expected to ease congestion in schools and improve learning outcomes for students.
