The city’s hip-hop community is mourning the loss of rapper Parkay ButtaBoy, who was shot and killed on March 24, 2025, in Englewood.
The 42-year-old artist was sitting in his car near South Sangamon Street when an unidentified gunman approached and opened fire. Witnesses say the attacker ambushed Parkay before fleeing the scene.
Paramedics rushed him to the University of Chicago Hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
A respected member of Bump J’s Goon Squad, Parkay was known for his raw storytelling and street anthems, making him a legend in Chicago’s underground rap scene. His death has sparked an outpouring of grief, with artists, fans, and friends flooding social media with tributes and calls for justice.
Police have yet to make any arrests but are actively investigating. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
