In light of recent corruption allegations involving public officials, Ghanaian media personality Blakk Rasta has urged Attorney General Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine to revisit and investigate the assets accumulated by Eugene Arhin, the former Director of Communications at the Presidency.
This call comes after the arrest of Kwabena Adu Boahen for allegedly diverting funds intended for the National Signal Bureau (NSB) to purchase over 27 houses in Ghana and abroad.
During the Monday edition of his popular “Black Pot” show on Blakk Empire Media, Blakk Rasta expressed concern over the wealth amassed by Eugene Arhin, as detailed in a divorce petition filed by Arhin’s former wife in 2021.
The petition listed numerous properties allegedly acquired by Arhin within a four-year period, including a five-bedroom house at East Legon, a four-storey building with 16 apartments at Bubiashie, another 16-apartment building under construction at Tuba-Weija, a storey building at Teshie, a house at AU Village in La, a residence in his hometown in the Central Region, a resort at Ada Foah, an executive barbershop at Teshie, and five cars comprising a Ford vehicle, Toyota Avalon, Toyota Lexus, Toyota Tundra, and Hyundai Elantra.
Blakk Rasta highlighted the disparity between Arhin’s official salary and the extensive list of assets, questioning how such wealth could be accumulated within a short timeframe on a public servant’s income.
He emphasized the need for transparency and accountability among public officials, especially in the wake of ongoing corruption scandals.
This is not the first time concerns have been raised about Arhin’s assets.
In February 2021, the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the source of Arhin’s wealth.
ASEPA’s Executive Director, Mensah Thompson, pointed out that the average salary of a presidential staffer was approximately GHC14,000, totaling around GHC560,000 over four years.
He questioned how Arhin could acquire such substantial properties within this period, considering his earnings.
Similarly, investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to allow Arhin to step aside and facilitate an investigation into his assets.
He stressed the importance of matching public officials’ earnings against their possessions to combat corruption effectively.
Blakk Rasta’s renewed call for scrutiny into Eugene Arhin’s wealth underscores the growing public demand for accountability and transparency among Ghana’s public officials.
As corruption allegations continue to surface, many citizens are urging authorities to take decisive action to investigate and address potential misconduct within the government.
