Assin South MP, John Ntim Fordjour, has fiercely criticized the Ashanti Regional Minister for berating firefighters battling the devastating Adum fire, labeling him the “TikTok Minister” for his misplaced frustration.
According to Fordjour, Ghana’s firefighters are underfunded yet continue to risk their lives, and rather than scolding them, the government should prioritize equipping them.
He questioned why the state allocated GHC2.7 billion to Government Machinery—including GHC78.8 million for government communications—while neglecting the Ghana National Fire Service.
“The GHC2.7 billion allocated to Government Machinery, including GHC78.8 million for Kwakye Ofosu’s one-man ministry of government communications for ‘chop chop,’ couldn’t half of that have been saved and allocated to procure state-of-the-art fire tenders and sophisticated equipment?” he asked.
Fordjour further blamed the power crisis (Dumsor) for the Adum fire outbreak, challenging the Minister to admit the link.
“My two questions to him: 1. Would the fire have started if Dumsor had not returned to Kumasi? 2. Why spend billions on bureaucracy while firefighters lack basic resources to save lives and property?”
The MP’s remarks have sparked public debate over government spending and the state’s emergency response readiness. Meanwhile, affected traders continue to count their losses as investigations into the fire unfold.
