The Upper East Regional Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Ayamga Ayinbisa, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to clarify why he failed to appoint Bolgatanga Central MP Isaac Adongo as a minister.
Speaking ahead of the President’s visit to the region today, Ayinbisa insisted that constituents of Adongo had high expectations, given his significant role in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign.
“The President will have to explain why he has not made Isaac Adongo a minister,” he stated.
According to Ayinbisa, both Mahama and Adongo had created the impression that the MP would secure a ministerial position if the NDC returned to power. However, Adongo has only been appointed as a member of the Bank of Ghana’s governing board, a move Ayinbisa described as disappointing.
“We expected Isaac Adongo to have been appointed as Finance Minister. At least, when he didn’t get that, we thought Trade and Industry was another finance-related portfolio. But he didn’t get that either—just a mere board member,” he lamented.
Ayinbisa stressed that Adongo’s constituents did not vote for him to become a board member but to hold a substantive ministerial position.
Adongo was widely tipped for a ministerial role, with his supporters touting his expertise in finance as a key qualification. His omission from the ministerial list has since sparked discontent among some NDC loyalists in Bolgatanga Central.
Ayinbisa is urging Mahama to use his visit to address the concerns and provide clarity on why Adongo was sidelined in his appointments.
