GHC 10,000 vanishes from his bed – Afenyo-Markin blasts security operatives over raid

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has strongly condemned the armed invasion of former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor Dr. Ernest Addison’s residence, describing it as an act of intimidation that has no place in Ghana’s democracy.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Afenyo-Markin expressed outrage over the dawn raid at Dr. Addison’s Roman Ridge home, where security operatives allegedly ransacked the property and took valuables, including GHC 10,000 in cash, jewelry, and official vehicles.

“We woke up to the shocking news that a group of heavily armed men stormed Dr. Addison’s home at dawn. What kind of country are we turning into?” he questioned.

The Minority Leader revealed that aside from the missing cash and stolen jewelry belonging to Dr. Addison’s wife, three official vehicles were seized. However, the family was later informed to retrieve them from a separate location.

“How do you take someone’s vehicle and then casually tell him to send his drivers to pick them up later? This is pure intimidation!” he fumed.

Afenyo-Markin warned that such actions undermine democracy and investor confidence.

“If appointees of the state can be treated this way, what hope is there for ordinary citizens?” he asked. He further cautioned that continued lawlessness could push people into taking security into their own hands.

Directing his concerns to President John Dramani Mahama, Afenyo-Markin urged him to ensure fairness and justice in governance. “Mr. President, please leave a legacy! Show Ghanaians that when power was in your hands, you ruled with justice, not fear!”

He concluded with a strong rebuke against political intimidation, calling for an end to what he described as a return to “the days of political terror.”
