Several injured in alleged military crackdown following soldier’s killing in Bawku

A military operation in Bawku has reportedly left several people injured, including women, children, and the elderly, following the killing of a soldier from the 11th Mechanized Battalion on March 17.

According to eyewitness accounts, military personnel stormed homes during curfew hours, forcibly removed residents from their bedrooms, and subjected them to severe beatings.

Some victims suffered serious injuries, including broken limbs, and have been admitted to Vineyard Hospital for treatment.

Local leaders have strongly condemned the incident. Rahman Bukari Asaana, the Assembly Member for Daduri Electoral Area, described the military’s actions as “unfortunate.”

Similarly, Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga denounced the alleged assault, calling it unacceptable.

“The rule of law must prevail,” Ayariga stated. “While I condemn the killing of the soldier, I also reject the military’s response, which has left innocent civilians suffering.”

Residents have called for immediate intervention to prevent further violence, as tensions remain high in the area.
