President John Dramani Mahama has called for urgent reforms to eradicate corruption within the Ghana Police Service, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in law enforcement.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, at the Jubilee House, President Mahama warned that corruption within the police force undermines justice and erodes public trust.
“Mr. IGP, your duty extends beyond maintaining law and order; it also involves eliminating corruption from the service,” he stated, stressing that integrity within the force is fundamental to national security and the rule of law.
He urged IGP Yohuno to take decisive action against misconduct, including bribery and abuse of power, to restore public confidence in the police.
“A zero-tolerance approach to corruption must be enforced at all levels of the service,” he added.
President Mahama expressed confidence in Yohuno’s ability to lead reforms, ensuring that the police regain the trust and respect of Ghanaians.
