Police have launched a full-scale investigation into the gruesome murder of a 25-year-old mobile money vendor, identified only as Junior, in Soldier-Line, a suburb of the Kwadaso Municipality.
Junior, originally from Ejisu Onwe, was found dead in his one-room apartment on Saturday, March 8, under horrifying circumstances. Reports suggest he returned home with a substantial amount of cash before unknown assailants stormed his residence.
He was later discovered in a pool of blood, with his killers allegedly fleeing with an undisclosed sum.
According to his landlord, George Boateng, the scene was deeply disturbing.
“He was found with his legs tied, hands bound behind his back, and mouth taped shut. There were deep lacerations on his neck, as if he had been slaughtered like a goat.
The attackers locked the door from the outside and vanished,” Boateng told Asaase News.
Concerned neighbors, unable to reach Junior, grew suspicious after noticing a foul odor from his room. Their worst fears were confirmed upon discovery of his lifeless body.
Police crime scene experts have since examined the residence as investigations intensify.
The body has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for preservation and autopsy.
A Growing Trend of Violence
This latest killing adds to a worrying pattern of attacks on mobile money vendors in the region.
Just last month, 27-year-old Patricia Nimako was shot dead at Krofrom, with her attackers escaping with GH¢10,000 and mobile phones. Another vendor was murdered in Amansie Asaman under similar circumstances.
Despite these alarming incidents, no arrests have been made, raising concerns over the safety of mobile money operators and the growing impunity of criminals targeting them.
Police have urged the public to provide any relevant information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
