As Ghana’s Finance Minister prepares to present the 2025 budget tomorrow, Honorable Abiire Awineyesema, Assemblyman for Zorko-Gambrongo in the Bongo District and Lecturer at Bolgatanga Technical University, has reiterated his call for a minimum monthly allowance of GHC2,000 for Assembly members.
In a statement, Hon. Abiire emphasized the need for adequate support to enhance the effectiveness of Assembly members in their communities.
“We still maintain our stance that Assembly members’ allowance must not fall below GHC2,000 per month,” he asserted.
This demand echoes former President John Mahama’s 2024 campaign promise to introduce allowances to bolster the work of Assembly members.
Hon. Abiire also advocated for the expansion of the school feeding program to include Junior High School (JHS) students, aiming to improve student welfare and retention.
Meanwhile, Ghanaians are eagerly anticipating the potential scrapping of the E-Levy, COVID Levy, and betting tax in tomorrow’s budget presentation.
