Gifty Oware detained by NIB over payroll fraud probe

Former Deputy Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Gifty Oware Mensah, has been detained by the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) in connection with an ongoing payroll fraud investigation.

Ms. Oware was taken into custody on Friday, March 7, 2025, and has since been denied bail.

Sources indicate that despite attempts by former NPP General Secretary John Boadu to secure her release, she was whisked away from the NIB premises.

Her lawyers, led by Nana Agyei-Baffour, have reportedly struggled to ascertain her exact location and secure her bail.

The detention follows her return to Ghana on March 5, 2025, after a holiday abroad post-2024 elections.

This development comes on the heels of the recent arrest of her colleague, Ohene Djan, who was also picked up by the NIB in a dramatic fashion.

The NIB has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
