The Techiman High Court has dismissed a parliamentary election petition filed by Christopher Beyere Baasongti of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Techiman South.
Baasongti filed the petition on January 27, 2025, challenging the Electoral Commission’s (EC) gazette notification of the election results issued on January 7, 2025.
However, Adjei Mensah Korsah, through his lawyer Gary Nimako Marfo, argued that Baasongti failed to provide security for costs within the legally required 21 days after the gazette publication.
The court, in its ruling on February 17, 2025, upheld this argument, stating that Baasongti’s failure to comply with Section 18(2) of the Representation of the People Law, 1992 (PNDCL 284), rendered the petition invalid.
This ruling solidifies Adjei Mensah Korsah’s position as the MP for Techiman South, with the court affirming that the petition lacked the procedural requirements to proceed.
