Two confirmed dead early Tuesday morning collision at Susuanso, Kumasi

In the early hours of Tuesday, February 11, 2025, a tragic accident occurred at Susuanso, a suburb of Kumasi, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.

The collision involved a Yutong bus and a Ford Transit van.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident happened around 5:30 AM when the Ford Transit, traveling from Accra to Kumasi, attempted to overtake another vehicle.

In the process, it collided head-on with the Yutong bus, which was en route from Tamale to Accra.

The impact of the collision led to the immediate deaths of the drivers of both vehicles.

Several passengers from both vehicles sustained varying degrees of injuries and were promptly transported to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

Emergency services, including personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), arrived swiftly to manage the situation and ensure the safe evacuation of the injured.

Preliminary investigations by the MTTD suggest that excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking by the driver of the Ford Transit were primary contributors to the accident.

Authorities have reiterated the importance of adhering to road safety regulations, especially on highways known for high traffic volumes.

This incident adds to a series of recent road accidents in the region.

In October 2024, a similar head-on collision between a VIP bus and a Sprinter bus at Atwedie, near Juaso on the Kumasi-Accra highway, resulted in seven fatalities.

The public is urged to exercise caution while traveling, adhere to speed limits, and avoid dangerous driving maneuvers to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.
