Minority is constructive, not destructive – Offinso North MP

The Member of Parliament for Offinso North, Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, has dismissed claims that the Minority Caucus is destructive, insisting they have been instrumental in supporting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

According to him, the Minority has been highly effective in Parliament, prioritizing the interests of Ghanaians.

His comments follow the recent controversy over the suspension of four MPs by Speaker Alban Bagbin.

Speaking to Channel One News, Dr. Asamoah defended the Minority’s approach to vetting ministerial nominees, stressing that their goal is to ensure only qualified individuals are approved.

“It would be wrong to say the Minority is being destructive. In fact, we are constructive. We have been magnanimous to the NDC government and have supported their initiatives. However, we must also protect the Ghanaian people and prevent any form of oppression,” he stated.

He emphasized that a strong Minority benefits the country, as their scrutiny helps the government function effectively.

“If the Minority is bullied, then the Ghanaian is bullied, and that is unfair. Our vetting process ensures President Mahama has the right people to support his work. When the NDC succeeds, the Ghanaian people benefit,” he added.
