Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah has tendered her resignation as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), effective immediately.
Appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in September 2021, Hajia Zakariah has led the organization for over three years.
Her tenure at MASLOC was marked by significant achievements, including being honored as the “Ultimate Woman of the Year” at the National Business Honours in 2024.
This accolade recognized her efforts in championing business sustainability and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises through accessible credit facilities.
Prior to her role as CEO, Hajia Zakariah served as the Deputy CEO of MASLOC starting in 2017.
In 2020, she contested the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primaries for the Yendi Constituency but was not successful.
She made a subsequent attempt in 2024; however, the party’s National Executive Committee declared the incumbent, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, as the parliamentary candidate.
Despite expressing concerns about the fairness of the process, Hajia Zakariah accepted the party’s decision in the interest of unity.
Hajia Zakariah’s resignation comes at a time when Ghana is experiencing significant political changes, including the recent inauguration of President John Mahama for a third term amidst economic challenges.
As of now, the reasons for her resignation have not been publicly disclosed, and MASLOC has yet to announce a successor.
