We will push for a first-class road in Bongo – Dr. Rainer Akumperigya

Dr. Rainer Akumperigya, a private legal practitioner and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for the construction of a transformative road network in the Bongo District.

According to him, a first-class circular road connecting key communities in the area could significantly boost socioeconomic development.

“If you look at Bongo, there is one route that, if constructed, could change the socioeconomic dynamics of the entire district,” Dr. Akumperigya stated.

The proposed circular route stretches from Sumbrungu in the Bolgatanga Municipality through Zorkor, Balungu, Nayorogo, Namoo, Feo, and Akayongo-Dua, looping back to Yorogo in Bolgatanga Municipality and Gowrie in the Bongo District.

While parts of this road were initiated under the current government, significant portions remain incomplete.

Dr. Akumperigya emphasized that fixing this road would address the district’s challenges, particularly its poor road network, which worsens during the rainy season due to broken culverts and difficult terrain.

He pledged to collaborate with government officials to ensure the road project is prioritized.

“Bongo is overdue for that circular road. It must be a first-class road connecting all these communities and linking us to Burkina Faso,” he insisted.

Dr. Akumperigya also recalled that former President John Dramani Mahama, during his campaign to become the NDC’s flagbearer, promised to work on the road, adding that the project remains a priority for him.

On his role as Secretary of the Constitutional Review Committee set up by President Mahama, Dr. Akumperigya noted that while the 1992 Constitution has been instrumental in electing leaders, there are pressing human rights issues that require attention.

He said the committee will engage the public to refine the constitution for improved governance.
