Northern regional minister designate pledges to address witchcraft accusations

The Northern Regional Minister nominee, Ali Adolf John, has committed to working closely with traditional leaders to address the persistent issue of witchcraft accusations and the mistreatment of alleged victims in the region.

Speaking during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Mr. Adolf highlighted the alarming prevalence of these cases, which often target vulnerable groups, especially the elderly, subjecting them to severe hardships.

“It is true that some areas in the Northern Region face these issues. Centres have been established in places like Naane in the Yendi District and Kukuo in the Nanumba North District. I have also heard of similar cases in other regions,” he noted.

Mr. Adolf expressed deep concern over the plight of those accused of witchcraft. “When I see the ordeals these individuals go through on television, it makes me uncomfortable.

I cannot imagine my own parents enduring such challenges. I will do everything within my power, alongside traditional rulers, to address this issue,” he pledged.

He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in tackling the problem.

“If approved as regional minister, I cannot solve this issue alone. We need the active involvement of traditional rulers to determine the best path forward.
