President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Adam Mutawakilu as the new Managing Director of Ghana Water Company. Mutawakilu brings extensive expertise in governance, energy, and finance to the role.
He holds an MSc in Development Finance from the University of Ghana, an MSc in Energy Economics from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), and has completed coursework for an MPhil in Petroleum and Oil Studies at the University of Cape Coast (2022).
He also earned a Commonwealth Executive MBA from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and an Executive Certificate in Governance and Leadership from the Ghana School of Governance and Leadership.
At the undergraduate level, he obtained a BSc in Administration (Accounting) from the University of Ghana.
Mutawakilu served as the first Member of Parliament for Damongo Constituency from 2013 to 2020.
During his time in Parliament, he was a member of the Mines and Energy Committee, where he rose to become Vice Chairman and later Ranking Member.
Under his leadership, the Minority Caucus exposed the controversial Ameri Novation Agreement, leading to the dismissal of then-Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.
He also served on the Committee of Members Holding Office of Profit.
Prior to his parliamentary career, Mutawakilu was the District Chief Executive for West Gonja District (2009–2013).
Before this, he worked as Head of Treasury at the University for Development Studies Central Administration.
Earlier in his career, he was a professional teacher, teaching Science, Mathematics, and Chemistry at Damongo Senior High School from 1996 to 1999, after earning a Teacher Training Certificate “A” from Bagabaga Training College.
He also taught Chemistry part-time at Bagabaga Training College and worked as a Laboratory Technician at West Gonja District Hospital.
With his diverse experience and qualifications, Adam Mutawakilu is expected to bring strategic leadership to Ghana Water Company.
