Shape up or ship out: Prof. Asare pushes for citizen-led accountability for ministers

Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare, a Public Law and Justice Fellow at CDD-Ghana, has called for a groundbreaking initiative to evaluate the performance of government ministers.

Speaking on The Key Points on TV3, he proposed OMAMPAM — Operation Monitor All Ministers’ Performance & Accountability Mechanism — to track and assess their effectiveness.

“Those who are performing will become very clear, and those who are not will also become very clear,” he said, highlighting how the system could guide the President in determining which ministers are excelling and which ones need to be replaced.

The citizen-driven mechanism would monitor the output of ministers, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), and local government bodies, fostering transparency and efficiency.

Prof. Asare believes OMAMPAM could instill a culture of accountability, ensuring public officials deliver results that meet national expectations.
