The unresolved parliamentary election results in the Ablekuma North Constituency have left residents frustrated and divided over the way forward.
The contest between the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Ewurabena Aubynn and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Nana Akua Afriyie remains inconclusive, leaving the constituency without a Member of Parliament.
A scheduled collation exercise by the Electoral Commission (EC) on Friday, January 17, at its Accra regional office was disrupted by a violent incident allegedly linked to NDC sympathizers.
Speaking to Channel One News, constituents voiced their concerns.
Emmanuel Nii Adyiri suggested a fresh election as the solution. “They should call for another election and let us vote again. The one who wins, wins,” he said.
Others, however, defended their preferred candidates. “I believe the NPP candidate won. They should declare her the winner,” Nurudeen Muntari argued.
Richard Allotey countered, claiming, “Ewurabena won the election. The EC should stop delaying and declare the results.”
Political parties have also proposed solutions. NPP’s Research and Elections Officer, Jones Tsikata, urged the NDC to present evidence to back their claims.
“We have shown them pink sheets, but they refuse to accept them,” he stated.
Meanwhile, NDC Constituency Organiser Musah Kalamu called for a rerun in 62 disputed polling stations.
“If the EC lacks pink sheets for these polling stations, they should rerun the elections,” he argued.
