Former Akim Abuakwa South MP and legal practitioner, Atta Akyea, has criticized the legality of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee established under the John Dramani Mahama administration, describing it as “unlawful” and “populist.”
Speaking on Newsfile on JoyNews, he urged the government to rethink its approach, asserting, “It is very unlawful, it is populist, and we shouldn’t go down that path.”
Atta Akyea argued that the committee’s operations undermine due process and accountability, fundamental principles of governance.
He emphasized that whistleblowers should discreetly provide credible information for investigation by relevant authorities.
“A whistleblower is typically a low-profile individual who strategically provides sensitive information to the appropriate body for them to investigate and take action,” he noted, contrasting this with the alleged methods of the ORAL committee.
The former MP also criticized the committee’s use of cameras and public exposure in gathering evidence, calling it unprofessional and legally questionable.
“Why don’t you gather information discreetly? Whatever they are doing, they should do it in accordance with the law and stop going around with cameras,” he said.
