Thugs disrupt seventh attempt at recollating Ablekuma North election results

A group of thugs allegedly stormed the collation center for the recollation of election results in the Ablekuma North Constituency, causing disruptions.

The process, scheduled to resume at 8 a.m. today at the old Electoral Commission (EC) head office in Ridge, Greater Accra, was halted following the attack. The perpetrators reportedly damaged louvre blades, chairs, and other EC property.

This marks the seventh failed attempt by the EC to finalize the recollation, which has been plagued by delays and disagreements.

A major setback occurred on January 8 when the Returning Officer, Vincent Obeng, resigned amid disputes over the authentication of pink sheets. Before his resignation, Mr. Obeng stated that the collation was nearly complete, with results from four out of seven remaining polling stations verified.

However, disagreements over the results from three polling stations led to the suspension of the process for the sixth time, and the latest attack has further delayed progress.
