Profile of Mohammed Abdul-Salam, newly appointed Director General of NLA

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mohammed Abdul-Salam as the Acting Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

The appointment, made in accordance with Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 45(1) of the National Lotto Act, 2006 (Act 722), was announced in a letter dated January 15, 2025, signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama.

Educational Background

Mr. Abdul-Salam holds an International Executive MBA in Strategy and Consultancy Management and a Postgraduate Diploma, both from the Paris Graduate School of Management.

He also earned a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy from Tamale Polytechnic.

His basic education was at Sakasaka L/A Primary and Middle School, where he studied from 1978 to 1988.

Professional Career

Before his appointment, Mr. Abdul-Salam served as Senior Manager at the Northern Regional Office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

He previously held similar positions in the Upper East and Volta regions as a Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Officer.

Since joining the NHIA in 2009, he has held various managerial roles at district and metropolitan levels, contributing significantly to operational oversight and program evaluations until 2017.

Political Career

Mr. Abdul-Salam played a key role in the 2024 general elections as the Northern Regional Campaign Coordinator for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

His responsibilities included campaign planning, stakeholder engagement, resource management, advocacy initiatives, and field mobilization.

Additional Training

He has participated in several short courses on leadership and other relevant fields, enhancing his professional and managerial capabilities.
