NPP no longer best managers of the economy – Eugene Boakye Antwi

Eugene Boakye Antwi, former Member of Parliament for Subin, has asserted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has lost its reputation as the “better managers of the economy.”

He attributed this decline to the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, accusing him of allowing Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to mismanage the economy. Boakye Antwi specifically pointed to the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), which he said caused significant hardship for Ghanaian pensioners, as a turning point.

“Traditionally, we are known as better managers of the economy. When things get tough, Ghanaians look to the NPP. However, many lost trust in the party when the economy began to deteriorate,” he stated.

He also highlighted the discontent among businesspeople, traditionally strong supporters of the NPP, who he said are either abstaining from voting or shifting allegiance to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Some of us urged the president to replace the finance minister because others could perform better. The cedi kept depreciating, prices kept rising, and yet salaries remained stagnant,” Boakye Antwi concluded.
