“I was depressed” – Serwaa Amihere opens up about leaked sex tape

Ghanaian broadcaster Serwaa Amihere has shared her emotional journey following the circulation of a leaked intimate video allegedly involving her last year.

Speaking at the Ignite Youth Empowerment Thanksgiving Service, Serwaa recounted how the ordeal led her into depression and highlighted the role her close friend, Obuobia Darko-Opoku, played in helping her recover.

“I was depressed and crying at home that day,” Serwaa revealed. “She came and said, ‘Let’s go and buy ice cream.’ I wasn’t talking to anyone, but she picked me up, took me to Osu, and bought me a big cup of ice cream. She told me, ‘Eat all the ice cream you can.’ That moment meant a lot to me.”

Serwaa expressed heartfelt gratitude to Obuobia, adding, “I never told you how grateful I was for that ride. It did me a lot of good.”

The video, which surfaced on April 2, 2024, sparked widespread controversy and led to an investigation by her employer, EIB Network.

On July 5, 2024, the network issued a statement confirming no misconduct on Serwaa’s part and revealed ongoing legal action against those responsible for sharing the video.

Reflecting on the incident, Serwaa cautioned young people to make wise choices. “I went through a very difficult year. Be extremely careful about the decisions you make because they may haunt you later,” she advised.
